Haiti.
Dearest Friends,
This has been on going for some time and it would feel neglectful if we don’t address it with you. We believe in projecting positivity and focussing on the good that each of the countries we work in have to offer. We work with some incredible people, they deserve opportunities and the right to be represented with grace, love and compassion.
But Haiti is suffering. For far too long the Haitian people have been subject to unimaginable difficulties, extreme poverty (60% of the population live on less than £1.56 a day), countless natural disasters that they have never been able to recover from. The country is now amid some severe political unrest. People are angry and are protesting. Thousands of people have rallied in Port au Prince, the home of many of our artisans, and are calling for the resignation of their President who is surrounded by allegations of acute corruption.
This extended period of unrest has resulted in most businesses having to close. People, for safety, have been unable to go to work and can barely leave their homes for food and water. This has huge implications on their livelihoods and the futures they’re trying hard to build for themselves.
It’s immensely complicated and barely covered in our media.
From the comfort of our studio it’s hard to comprehend their anguish and to know how to help. What we can do is continue to support the artisans, supporting job creation, empowering each to become self sufficient with the ability to look after themselves and their families. We do this though offering Haitian accessories to you.
Your purchases matter.
So please keep Haiti in your thoughts and if you want to support their artisans you can visit the link in our profile and shop the Haitian Collection.
With Love,
Heidi
